Rupee falls to 2-week low on dollar demand

The rupee weakened to its lowest in two weeks in early morning trade on Wednesday on strong dollar demand from corporates that offset a firm euro and positive local shares, traders said.
* At 9:25 a.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 49.6725/6750 per dollar, after falling to 49.7500, a level last seen on Oct. 25 and 0.4 percent weaker than its previous close of 49.4750/4850.
* The euro held firm in early Asian trade as political uncertainty in Italy looked set to ease after the country's prime minister said he would resign, leaving the market to focus on the latest reading on the Chinese economy.
* The euro was at $1.3832, compared with $1.3770 when the rupee closed on Tuesday, while the index of the dollar against six major currencies was at 76.614 points versus 76.948 points.
